This week we have a
special guest, Colin Thomas G3PSM who is President of the RSGB. Colin
is coming to tell us about his role within the society and also answer
questions from the club about the RSGB. As well as the 2009 President
and Chairman of the Board Colin is also RSGB Spectrum & regulatory
Director so will also be able to help us understand more about groups
such as the 5MHz working party and also topical subjects like PLT and
EMC.
Following our success in attaining 4th
position in the 2009 RSGB Club Championship contest series we will hold 2 ‘Getting
started in Contesting’ workshops to help beginners on the 25th
November and 9th December respectively. The success of our position
is very dependent upon the number of logs that we can submit and consistency of
entries, apart from the overall scores. Whilst these contests include
SSB, DATA (psk & rtty), and CW sessions most newcomers can easily enter on
SSB, and possibly DATA, after some basic instruction on the techniques. Therefore
these workshops will be aimed at helping newcomers in particular to understand
the station set-up and operating techniques for participating in such contests.
Thereafter, personal assistance can be made available to help people to get up
and running; which can also initially include visiting the shack of someone
taking part in the contest.
The Club Championship series of contests is run by
RSGB and takes place between January and July on 80m on selected evenings from
2000 to 2130hrs. Each month there are 3 sessions, namely CW, SSB and DATA.
If you would like to learn about contesting
techniques and/or take part in the forthcoming series please come along to
these workshops. Meanwhile contact Malcolm G3PDH or Roger G3LDI for more
information.
There
will be a review and debrief of SSB Field day on Wednesday November
